  • The East Newton girls displayed superb defense on Monday as they slowed Diamond and went on to win a varsity nonconference tilt at Diamond High School, 31-20.

  • The East Newton girls displayed superb defense on Monday as they slowed Diamond and went on to win a varsity nonconference tilt at Diamond High School, 31-20.
    With the game tied 4-4 after the first quarter, the Lady Patriots (8-6 overall) won each of the next three quarters. They closed the first half on a 10-3 run and controlled the scoreboard the remainder of the way.
    Shelbey Thomlinson led East Newton with eight points while Emily Brummett added four, Ellie White two, Haley Heilig six, Laura Hopper two, Sarah Harper four and Kourtney Brewster three.
    Cady Littlefield led all scorers with 10 points for the Lady Wildcats while Asia Mahan pitched in three, Shayla Jones two, Macie Seward two, Heather Wilson two and Hanna Million one.
    The Lady Wildcats (7-5) entertain Miller at 6 p.m. Friday in a Spring River Valley Conference showdown.
