  • The tale of the tape in Monday’s showdown between the Lamar Tigers and Diamond Wildcats came down to Lamar’s play in the third quarter.
    The Tigers, after leading 19-18 at halftime, ripped off a 15-3 run in the third to put themselves in the drivers seat for good. They closed it out with their best quarter of the game — 18 points in the fourth — to win 51-33.
    Landon Compton and Josh Garfield each scored 12 points to help pace the Tigers’ offense while teammates Sam Bailey and Tripp Tucker got nine apiece.
    The loss was only the third for the Wildcats this season. They fell to 9-3 overall.
    Ryan Jinks led the way for the Wildcats with 10 points while Brodie Bien added eight, Logan Myers seven, Darren Russow four, Trent Hayes three and Tanner Paradeis one.
    The Wildcats entertain Miller in their Spring River Valley Conference opener at 6 p.m. Friday.
