Garry Austin Staton, 67, Neosho, died Jan. 6, 2013, at Freeman West ICU, following a lengthy illness.

Garry was born July 22, 1945, in Jasper, Ala., the son of G.A. and Jean. (Allen) Staton. He had worked for the railroad and as an independent insurance agent. Garry moved to the area three months ago from Rockport, Texas, he was an avid golfer; avid Alabama fan and an avid bowler. He married Brenda J. Parker on June 3, 1966, and the marriage ended in divorce, she survives. He then married Nancy Soto and that marriage ended in divorce and she survives. He married Janet S. Williams Staton, who survives of the home.

Additional survivors include three sons, Garry A. Staton, Neosho, Sgt. First Class Michael P. Staton and wife, Nicole, Radcliff, Ky., Command Chief Master Sergeant David R. Staton and wife, Kimberly, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz.; four daughters, Sharon V. Walkup and husband, Paul, Neosho, Carolyn J. Johnston and husband, Travis, Summers, Ark., Brenda J. Franklin and husband, Kevin, Rogers, Ark., and Rose M. Rose and husband, Mike, Anaheim Hills, Calif.; four step-children, John M. Jones and wife, Miranda, Colorado Springs, Colo., Melony A. Singleterry and Amy L. Singleterry, both of Rockport, Texas and Ruben Singleterry, Jr., state of Texas; two brothers, Marv Staton, state of Michigan and Steve Staton, Bourbonnias, Ill.; one sister, Traci Strange and husband, Derek, Paoli, Ind.; 24 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Staton.


Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Rev. Ralph Walker will officiate.

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Following the services on Friday, the body will be taken for cremation.
