The Neosho seventh grade boys basketball team swept Republic on Tuesday.

The Wildcats’ “A” team fought back from a 22-16 halftime deficit to tie the game at 42 at the end of regulation. They then bested the Tigers 12-4 in the extra period to win 54-46.

Yeej Lee, Zach Jennings and Jarvis Funk all had big nights for the Wildcats. Lee led Neosho with 16 points, six steals and two blocks while Jennings turned in 11 points, three assists and six steals and Funk had 10 points and three steals. Brady Wise finished with seven points and three steals, Hank Selig added five points and eight rebounds, Gavin Kelley tallied three points, four rebounds and three steals while Keilan Moore finished with two points and 11 rebounds.

“The guys played great (Tuesday),” Wildcats coach Tony Branscum said. “They kept their composure and kept competing. Gavin (Kelley) held their big guy scoreless in the second and third quarters while we were coming back. That was huge.”
The “B” team, meanwhile, had an easier road to travel as they cruised past the Tigers 37-17.

Neosho jumped ahead early in the contest and never looked back as they received quality minutes off the bench from several players.

A.C. Marion led the Wildcats with seven points while Luke Kibler finished with six points, 11 rebounds and two assists; Ethan Coon had four points and five rebounds; Braxton Pennington and Davon Willis turned in four points; James Jennings had two points, four steals and six rebounds; Kaleb Moreland finished with two points and two steals; and Dalton Flory, Grant Guillory and Jared Scribner each tossed in two points.

Both Neosho teams are now 2-1 on the season. They entertain Joplin South at home on Thursday.
