Two people were killed and four seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash that took place at 12:23 p.m. on Interstate 44, two miles northwest of Sarcoxie.
Killed were Johnny L. Washburn, 58, of Asbury, and Bonnie S. Weaver, 75, of Tulsa, Okla. Both were pronounced dead at 12:42 p.m. by George Woodward, Jasper County Assistant Coroner. Their bodies were taken to Joplin Mortuary Service in Webb City. Washburn is owner of Taco Gringos' Neosho, Carthage and Joplin locations.
Injured were Washburn's wife, Deborah, 49; and children Abby, 19; Samantha, 13; and Karli, 12. They were taken by ambulance to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin for treatment.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash happened as Weaver, westbound in the eastbound lane of I-44 in a 1998 Dodge Dakota truck, crashed into an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Washburn.
All were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, a patrol report noted.
