  • Silas Smith racked up 16 points to lead the Nevada Tigers to a 56-42 victory over the McDonald County Mustangs in varsity boys basketball action on Friday.
Smith was an imposing force for the Tigers as their physical style of play and solid shooting performance as a team mirrored Smith’s night.
The Mustangs (3-10) didn’t truly get going until the second half. After trailing 27-11 at halftime, the Mustangs exploded for 31 second half points. The Tigers, however, racked up 29 of their own as six players pitched in at least five points in the game.
Brandt Jamin and Nathan Colopy each scored 10 points for the Mustangs while Grant Wolf finished with eight, Lane Ketterman seven and Mitchell five.
Drey Fickle led the Mustangs with 12 points while Pablo Alvarez finished with two, Drew Harmon five, Tyler Sherwood three, Tyrel Lett nine and Jake Wood five.
Nevada also won the junior varsity game, 51-37. Dalton Aubrey scored 15 for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs are back in action at 5 p.m. Thursday when they take on Riverton in the Frontenac (Kan.) Tournament.
