  • CARTHAGE — The annual Black and Blue Brawl between the Neosho and Carthage wrestling teams lived up to its billing on Tuesday night at Carthage High School.
    The Neosho Wildcats, ranked as the No. 2 duals team in the state per missouriwrestling.com, took on the No. 8 Carthage Tigers in their annual showdown. Despite several intriguing matches entering the night, the Wildcats claimed their fifth consecutive trophy at the dual in dominant fashion by winning 12 of 14 matches in cruising to a 53-10 victory.
    Perhaps the most exciting match of the night took place at 126 pounds where a pair of River's, Neosho's Buttram, ranked No. 2 at 120 pounds, and the Tigers' Maggard, No. 3 at 126, squared off. Buttram, however, would gain the upper hand and handed Maggard a 4-2 decision.
    The 132-pound match also had fans on their feet as Neosho's Nate Rodriguez (ranked No. 1) won by decision over Seth Logan (No. 4) in an exciting match, 10-2. At 145 pounds Neosho's Kyle Hostetter opened some eyes when he pinned Carthage's Tommy Bradshaw (No. 6), a wrestler he'd lost to previously, in 1:34.
    The varsity side began at 170 pounds where Neosho's Austin Hailey (No. 7) won by decision over Skyler Bloomer, 9-1. Neosho's Jacob Brock (No. 3) received a bye at 182.
    Other results from the night, with Neosho wrestlers listed first, were: 195, Ben Elledge won by decision over Robbins, 6-3. 220, Christian Lopez (No. 3) pinned Selsor, 1:15. 285, Aaron Clardy (No. 6) won by decision over Perry, 17-4. 106, John Williams won by decision over Jones, 10-2. 113, Kyler Rea (No. 1) pinned Cancinos, 1:47. 120, Brayden Brookman lost to Gage Gartner (No. 6). 138, Jason Box lost to Trevor Feagans (No. 2). 152, Chance Branstetter won by decision over Ford, 6-0. 160, Garrick Fausett won by decision over Logan Bryan (No. 10), 10-1.
    Results from the junior varsity dual were: Toby Friend lost to Huffman; Isaac Townsend pinned Castillo; Cody Fox lost to Sprenkle; Chase Kirschner lost to Bernal; Montana Drum lost to Harden; Brooke Williams lost to Simmons; Dakota Vance pinned Kleindl; Peter Elwise won by decision over Gallup, 15-8; Addison Derryberry pinned Clubb; Franco pinned Sneed; Jesty Septey lost to Huffman; Bradly Ratliff pinned Castillo. Cody Fox pinned Gilstrap.
    The loss was Carthage's first of the season. The Tigers now stand at 7-1 in duals.
    The Wildcats are back in action tonight at 6 p.m. at Carl Junction.
