Organizers are gearing up for the third annual Neosho Arts Council's Sweet Arts Gala, to be held 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb 2, at the Neosho Civic Center.
The event is semi-formal attire, with dinner, live and silent auctions and music by the Jack Mitchell Big Band. The band specializes in five decades of familiar dance favorites. There will be a dance floor as well. Food is provided by Great Western Dining Service, with a cash bar by Sam's Cellar.
Tickets for the event are available now for $50 per person or a table for eight is $400. They may be purchased at Mills Park Centre Furniture in Neosho or the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are available until Jan. 25. In case inclement weather postpones the event, it will be held the following Friday, Feb. 8.
Mills, president of the arts council, said the event supports arts council activities throughout the year.
"We have a spring and a fall art show," Mills said. "We have several contests, we have the chalk arts contest, we have the youth photo contest and show, we have sponsored scholarships to area art students, the Hermann Jaeger (event). We hope to expand the things we do."
Artists pieces are from both local and nationally known artists such as Doug Hall, Jason Sacran, John Lasater, Larry Clingman and Monte Toon.
"(The gala) is kind of an evening out to celebrate Valentine's Day and so we hope that people will take the opportunity to have a night out with some great food, some great art and of course dance to the music of the Jack Mitchell Big Band," he said.

There will be a preview event of art this Saturday.
"We are having an art preview from 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday, at the all new Abstract Illusions Gallery on 113 W. Spring St.," Mills said. "Refreshments provided. It is free and open to the public. We invite everyone to come see a preview of the art."
