  • When the Webb City Lady Cardinals rolled into town on Monday, the McDonald County Lady Mustangs new they would have their hands full.
    One of the premier teams in Southwest Missouri, the Lady Cardinals showed why as they rolled to a 65-30 victory at McDonald County High School.
    The Lady Cardinals wasted no time in lighting up the scoreboard as they netted 20 points in the first quarter to take a 20-11 lead. Once they got out front the Lady Cardinals’ defense locked down and held McDonald County to seven points in the second quarter and just two in the fourth while they continued to pull away.
    “They’re good,” Lady Mustangs coach LaDonna McClain said of Webb City. “They can all play. They’re hard to defend.”
    Mikaela Burgess, a 5-foot-7 junior, was in charge of the Lady Cardinals’ offense, scoring 20 points while Kaitlin Beason, a 5’8 junior, chipped in 15, and Casey Heger, a 6’2 junior, followed with 12. Megan Heman and Desirea Buerge each finished with nine points.
    Preslea Reece, a 6’2 sophomore, paved the way for the Lady Mustangs with 15 points while Dani Pierce chipped in six, Courtni Smith five and Sarah Rickman four.
    The Lady Cardinals also won the junior varsity game, 46-17. Baili Nelson led McDonald County with nine points.
    The Lady Mustangs (3-12) travel to take on Monett at 6 p.m. Thursday.
