The Neosho R-5 school board officially accepted the resignations of head football coach Jared Schoonover and head softball coach Melissa Clark on Monday.
Neosho Athletic Director Corey Roy said on Tuesday the district would begin sifting through candidates immediately, with hopes of filling those positions by sometime in February.
“We are planning on going and working as fast as we can,” Roy said. “For sure, we would like to have somebody (identified) by the February board meeting.”
Schoonover’s departure caps a three-year stint at NHS where his Wildcats went 7-23 during his tenure.
Under Clark, the Lady Wildcats went 14-12 in 2010, and 14-11 in ‘11 before falling to 6-20 last season.
Roy says the district will conduct a thorough, yet swift, search through candidates to find the right fits for Neosho. There is a lot to be done between now and February, however.
“We are going to open it up, and we are confident that we are going to get some very good candidates and get the right people for Neosho, and move our programs forward,” Roy said.
A closed session meeting to further discuss winter coaches was tabled on Monday, with a future meeting to be scheduled at a later date.
