  • The Diamond Wildcats went on a 15-5 run in the first quarter and went on to defeat the East Newton Patriots, 47-35, during varsity boys action on Tuesday at East Newton High School.
The Wildcats (13-3) continued to see big dividends from their offensive stalwarts as Ryan Jinks returned to the lineup to pair with teammate Darren Russow in dropping 13 points apiece to lead Diamond scorers.
The Wildcats jumped ahead 22-9 at halftime in a low-scoring affair, before holding off a 26-point second half by the Patriots.
Trent Hayes added nine points for the Wildcats while Brodie Bien finished with seven, Cort Hardy four and Evan Moreland one.
“A road win against a rival is always good, especially by double digits,” Diamond coach Brandon Rabel said. “We’ll take it.”
Bryce Zimmerman led the Patriots with 13 points while Sam Swartz chipped in 12, Colby Thomas six, Deion Clark two and Zack Deman two.
The Wildcats take on Afton (Okla.) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the NEO Tournament in Miami, Okla.
