  • James J. (Jimmy) Harper, 89, entered into rest on Jan. 23, 2013, at his home, following a short illness.
    He was born on July 29, 1923 in Granby, to John William and Bessie Mae (Watkins) Harper.
    Jimmy was a lifelong Neosho area resident and worked for 42 years at Lampo Auto Supply until his retirement in 1986. He was an Army veteran and a member of the VFW Post 4142 and American Legion 163. He was a Baptist.
    Jimmy married Helen Wright on Nov. 5, 1946, in Columbus, Kan., and she survives.
    He is also survived by his children, George Allen Harper, Campe Verde, Ariz., Phyllis K. Ingles, Ukiah, Calif.; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Joe Harper; his parents; and three brothers.
    Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at Clark Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, Neosho; Rev. Melvin Stapp officiating. Interment will be Gibson Cemetery Neosho, with full military honors at graveside. The body will lie in state 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends from noon – 1 p.m.
