The Neosho wrestling team wrapped up its final dual of the season on Thursday by whipping the Rolla Bulldogs 70-9 at Springfield Hillcrest High School.
The victory finished the Wildcats at 12-1 in duals this season.
As they have most of their opponents this season, the Wildcats dispatched the Bulldogs quickly as Neosho’s John Williams pinned Leach from Rolla at 106-pounds to start the fury.
Eight of the Wildcats’ 12 victories were by pin, with Williams, Kyler Rea, Dakota McGarrah, Nate Rodriguez, Jason Box, Kyle Hostetter, Chance Branstetter and Addison Derryberry all won in that fashion.
Garrick Fausett, Austin Hailey and Aaron Clardy all received open victories, while Jacob Brock won by major decision over Harmount, 13-2. Toby Friend and Ben Elledge both lost.
“We wrestled well to conclude our dual season,” Wildcats coach Jeremy Phillips said. “We still have many little things that we have got to improve upon to finish our season with the results that we are capable of.
“One specific thing that will help us keep the focus in order to do that is better leadership. Our leaders must continue to step up and be a positive voice and example for our team with everything that we do.”
On the junior varsity mat, Neosho’s Cody Fox won by pin at 285 pounds, Rexi Elwise (170) won by pin, Peter Elwise (152) won by decision 10-3 and Juan Franco (152) won by pin. Jesty Sepety and Chase Kirschner both lost.
The Wildcats are back in action this weekend at the Central Ozark Conference Tournament at Webb City High School.
