The Mount Vernon Lady Mountaineers rolled into Seneca on Thursday and downed the Lady Indians, 62-32, in a varsity Big 8 Conference game.
The Lady Indians never could get going as Mount Vernon climbed out to leads of 19-6 and 32-15 at the end of the first and second quarters, respectively. Seneca bounced back with a solid third quarter in which they were outscored 16-13, but watched as the Lady Mountaineers closed the game on a 14-4 tear through the fourth to seal it.
Annie Howard led the Lady Indians with nine points while Molli Cooper tossed in seven, Courtney Cook six, Bailey Skelton four, and Rachel Butterfield, Willow Rhoades and Elena Wood two each.
Mount Vernon also edged Seneca 35-32 in the “B” game. Wood paced the Lady Indians with 16 points in that contest.
Seneca begins play in their host tournament on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
