The East Newton Lady Patriots couldn’t make their lead in the fourth quarter hold up as the Aurora Lady Houns scrapped back from a four-point deficit to knock off their Big 8 foes, 56-53, on Thursday at East Newton High School.
East Newton led at the end of each of the first three quarters as it opened the fourth carrying a 43-39 advantage. But Aurora would answer with its biggest quarter of the night (17 points) to overtake the Lady Patriots.
The loss dropped East Newton to 11-8, 2-2 in the conference.
Rachel Parker did the heavy lifting for Aurora as she led all scorers with 22 points. Teammate Kendra Eden tallied 10 points for the Lady Houns while Shania Siegrist had four, Bailey Hilton nine, Jordan Hall six and Lakin Waggoner five.
Kourtney Brewster paced the Lady Patriots with 16 points while Haley Heilig added 14, Emily Brummett eight, Aubrey McDermott two, Shelbey Thomlinson one, Laura Hopper eight, Whitney Thomlinson two and Sarah Harper two.
East Newton won the “B” game, 45-30.
The Lady Patriots take on McDonald County at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Seneca Tournament.
