A Seneca man died Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in an early morning accident involving an Allied Waste garbage truck.
John Burton, 74, was severely injured in the accident, which occurred at 4:15 a.m. in front of his residence at 710 Osage St., near the Cemetery Road intersection, according to Seneca Police Chief James Altic.
Burton later died at an area hospital.
Altic said Burton's maroon truck was stopped in the roadway and blocking both lanes of traffic, though authorities are not sure if the vehicle stalled or rolled out of Burton's driveway.
Altic said as Burton was standing on the passenger side of his truck, an Allied Waste garbage truck came over the hill and struck Burton's vehicle, which then hit Burton.
Altic said because of the steep hill the driver of the garbage truck did not see Burton or his truck until it was too late to stop.
