Crowder College is home to a variety of ceramic art pieces now through Feb. 7, as the Longwell Museum hosts the Midwest Clay Artists' gathering of works.
"There's just such a range in this one show alone that you get a little taste of all these different areas," said gallery director Casey Stueber.
The "Of Earth and Fire" display features a colorful variety of pieces ranging from everyday items such as pots and cups, to more abstract pieces.
"It's just such a wonderful mix of talents and ceramics and we thought the community and the college and just the people in the area would love to come," Stueber said.
Stueber said this is the first time the exhibit has been featured at Crowder College.
Among the pieces on display is a green vase, titled "Crystal Chaos" and created by artist Sylvia Shirley.
Stueber said the piece features crystalline glaze, and has a look that is not easy to create.
"She's definitely a master of glazing," Stueber said. "When you fire a pot like this, the technical part is that you have to hold it at certain temperatures in order for the crystals to grow and it's just really difficult to achieve something with that amount of crystals on it."
Stueber said the variety of artwork has attracted a steady flow of visitors to the museum since its arrival Jan. 23.
"I think with this they were really impressed because a lot of them haven't been exposed to such a range of ceramic work before," Stueber said of the museum's visitors. "They saw that a pot isn't just a simple pot, there's a lot more that can be done with it."
While the display features an array of pieces for viewing, it also offers an opportunity for those shopping for ceramics.
The pieces are on sale, and have prices listed on their displays.
Stueber said the sales go through the artists and Crowder College does not collect a commission from the purchased items.
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The exhibit is free to view and is open to the general public.
