At 15-8 overall and coming off a championship at the Seneca tourney, the Lady Patriots jumped ahead of McDonald County 21-11 at the half and never looked back. Facing each other for the third time already this season, the Lady Patriots continued their sweep of the season series.
“It’s hard to beat someone three times (in a season),” East Newton coach Marty Rinehart said. “So it’s nice to play well and get a win.”
Shelbey Thomlinson led East Newton offensively with 12 points, while Emily Brummett tossed in seven, Haley Heilig three, Whitney Thomlinson nine, Sarah Harper five and Kourtney Brewster four.
For the Lady Mustangs, Preslea Reece led all scorers with 15 points, Courtni Smith had five, and Cendy Garcia, Danielle Pierce, Alisha Ballard and Baili Nelson all had two each.
