ANDERSON — The McDonald County Chamber of Commerce and the Freeman Screen Team will join forces for a health fair, to be held from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 16 at First Baptist Church in Anderson. The event is free and open to the public.
"This is a great opportunity for the people of this community and surrounding communities to be able to get tests ran at a very low cost and get information about health services offered in this area and also surrounding area health services," said Susan Woods, chairman of the chamber's health fair committee.
The Freeman Screen Team will be on hand to perform numerous health tests. Examples of the $10 packages include vital signs (blood pressure and pulse), lipid panel (includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, VLDL, HDL/cholesterol ratio, and triglycerides), glucose (blood sugar), weight and body fat composition (a computerized scale provides and current exercise levels), and bone density screening. Additional packages will also be available, and results will be mailed to participants in two to three weeks after the screening.
In addition to the screen team, other vendors will be on hand, including Shag-A-Delx, the McDonald County Health Department, State Line Chiropractic, Edward Jones, Regional Hospice, Access Home Health, Ozark Community Hospital, Aegis Therapy, Golden Living Center of McDonald County, Avalon Hospice, Burks House of Health, Access Family Care, Medicalodges / Gran Villa, First Choice Chiropractic Center and Hospice Compassus, to name a few.
"Some vendors will be giving away advertising literature, door prizes, freebies, demonstration of services, and much, much more," Woods said. "I can tell you there are a lot of vendors giving out door prizes this year."
Since the blood testing requires fasting (nothing to eat or drink for the previous eight to 12 hours) the Golden Living Center will provide orange and apple juice, fresh baked cookies, and coffee to hold people over until they can get home for a proper breakfast.
