  • A strong performance by the Pierce City on Monday helped them cruise past Diamond 64-34 in a varsity girls Spring River Valley Conference game.
    The Lady Eagles’ strong start began with a 14-4 run in the first quarter. They later led 36-17 before a 19-7 burst in the third quarter put the game away.
    With nine players scoring in the game, Becca Hatfield had the strongest showing for Pierce City as she rattled in 21 points, while Faith Strong had two, Matty Brottlund three, Bailey Hayward eight, Christine Younker four, Krishna Merriman 10, Emily Ashley six, Amber Wagner two and Shania Hogan eight.
    Diamond was led offensively by Hanna Million with 11 points, followed by Cady Littlefield with 10, Macie Seward three, Heather Wilson two, Asia Mahan three, Kirsten Eden three and Lauren Olson two.
    Pierce City won the junior varsity game, 18-16, in two quarters. Eden led the Lady Wildcats with seven points.
    Diamond (12-11, 4-3 SRVC) travels to Sarcoxie for a 6 p.m. tilt today.
