  • Carl Junction came alive offensively in the second half, and came back to top East Newton in a varsity girls Big 8 Conference tilt at East Newton High School on Monday.
    Trailing the Lady Patriots 23-20 at the break, the Lady Bulldogs turned up the heat in the second half with 16 third quarter points and 17 more in the fourth to take control for good.
    The Lady Bulldogs got good minutes from their bench. Eight players scored in the game, with Brenlee McPherson leading the way with 11 points, while Maria Chism had 10, Bryce Boyd nine, Bradyn Wall six, Timbre Murty four, Sydney Koch five, Olivia Uhrich two and Katie Skaggs six.
    Kourtney Brewster led all scorers with 17 points for the Lady Patriots, while Shelbey Thomlinson added nine, Emily Brummett seven, Ellie White two, Kortney Cambers three, Haley Heilig two and Whitney Thomlinson three.
    The Lady Bulldogs also came out on top in the junior varsity bout, 58-55. Emily Sorrell led East Newton with 19 points.
    The Lady Patriots (16-9, 3-3 Big 8) entertain Monett at 6 p.m. Thursday.
