ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — Neosho Wildcat Xtreme Team wrestlers are about to take St. Joseph by storm this weekend as 11 youth wrestlers will take part in the MO/USA 6-under and Rookie State Tournaments.
The Wildcats will feature seven grapplers in the 6-under Tournament, with the other four competing in the Rookie State Tournament. Those seven in the 6-under tourney are Jonathan Chrisco, Wyatt Friend, Carter Howard, Jack Lankford, Cayden Larsen, Bostyn Patterson and Nicholas Shaeffer. The rookie tourney features Nate Copeland, Julian Ethridge, Trentin Ethridge and Cal Kivett.
Jonathan Chrisco - A second year wrestler at age 6, Chrisco has compiled five gold, two silver and four bronze medals so far in his career. He won gold last season at "Rookie State" in the 6-under, 45 pound bracket. He will be competing this weekend in the 50-under bracket.
Wyatt Friend - A Division I wrestler at 45 pounds, Friend, a second year wrestler, has wrestled in eight tournaments this season - compiling a 23-7 record, including 19 pins. Friend was a "Rookie State" champion in 2012.
Carter Howard - A first year wrestler at age 5, Howard carries with him a 12-11 overall record this year. He has earned five medals, including three bronze, one silver and one gold thus far.
Jack Lankford - Wrestling in the Division I, 50-pound bracket, Lankford currently sits at 36-6 overall, with four of those losses coming in out-of-state tournaments. He has six tournament championships (five in Missouri and one in Kansas) under his belt, and four runner-up finishes. Lankford took third place at the America Crown National Tournament. He is a second year wrestler, and also competes in football, judo and ju-jitsu.
Cayden Larsen - A first-year wrestler in the Division 1, 50-pound bracket at age 5, Larsen has brought home two second, a third and one fourth place medals this season. His second place trophies came at Carl Junction and Webb City, with a third at Seneca and fourth in Diamond.
Bostyn Patterson - Wrestling in the 6-under, 55 pound class, Patterson has put together a strong season and has hardware to prove it, medaling in seven of eight tournaments while compiling four first places, two seconds and a fourth to go along with a 20-5 record.
Nicholas Shaeffer - In his second season of wrestling, Shaeffer remains unblemished to date this year with a record of 35-0, including 30 pins. He has won 11 tournaments this season, including Missouri Nationals.
Nate Copeland - First year wrestler at age 9. Copeland went 5-2 in his last two tournaments, placing second at both the Carl Junction and Webb City Novice Tournaments.
Cal Kivett - A first-year wrestler, Kivett has compiled a 13-21 overall record this season.
