The Neosho Lady Wildcats watched their season come to a close on Monday as they fell to Willard 37-33 in the Class 5, District 12 Tournament at Parkview High School.
The Lady Wildcats (8-15) led most of the way behind a solid defensive showing that didn’t allow the Lady Tigers to hit double figures in any quarter until the fourth. But in the end it was the fourth quarter that did Neosho in, as the Lady Tigers exploded for 16 points in the frame to pull in front.
“I’m proud of our girls’ effort,” Neosho coach Lance Robbins said. “I told them after the game I was proud at how hard they played all season. We’ll take a couple of weeks off and then we’ll get back at it to make ourselves better for next year.”
Neosho led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, 18-15 at the half and 23-21 at the end of the third. Willard took control, however, with 1:10 to go in the game when Ali Perry drained a 3-pointer to swing the momentum in the Lady Tigers’ favor.
Neosho would bounce back and tie it, but the Lady Tigers would go to the free throw line and seal it in the final minute.
Perry closed as Willard’s leading scorer with 10 points, while Amber Percival was held to seven, Makenzie Parker six, Rachel Williamson three, Caitlin Carpenter one, Mariah Stewart eight and Chelsea Yates two.
Neosho’s Chelsey Henry led all scorers with 13 points, while Morgan Rathmann added 10, Morgan Rogers six, Corea Lowery three and Addi Long two.
“I was proud of the way Morgan Rathmann played in her last game,” Robbins said. “She played well and she played hard for four years for me. I’m just real proud of the effort and progress she made over the past four years.”
