  • Crowder College will host a dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Neosho campus' Davidson Hall for the Rocketdyne Mural.
The mural was painted by Larry Sanchez in 1963.
The Rocketdyne plant was involved in building engines for rockets that carried Americans into space, and Sanchez, a former Rocketdyne employee, created his mural to represent that work.
The mural reportedly depicts his interpretation of what space would look like in the future.
Sanchez was a technical artist for Rocketdyne.
The mural was previously on display in the employee cafeteria of Premier Turbines, formerly Rocketdyne, where Sanchez had originally painted it.
However, the Newton County Tourism Committee, along with Premier Turbines, decided to find a new home for the mural where it could be more visible.
It now resides on the first floor of Crowder's Davidson Hall, just outside of the science labs and classrooms.
Sanchez also created the tiled mural on the south side of Mills Park Centre, near Big Spring Park.
