  • Thanks to the application of Educational Outreach Specialist Bruce Hallman, the hatchery was recently awarded a $2,500 grant to be used for our kids' fishing derbies. The "2013 Take Me Fishing Award" was granted from Outdoor Nation and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation.
This funding supports projects and initiatives that result in increased participation in fishing among youth. Projects reinforce the idea that recreational fishing is one of the first and most important ways in which young Americans are introduced to the outdoors.

Anthony Shell and Tim Hill from the Tribal Fish Hatchery in Cherokee, N.C. arrived early Monday morning to pick up 11,370 two-inch rainbows. Additionally, Bennett Springs State Hatchery in Lebanon, Mo., picked up 10,000 five-inch rainbows.
Each year at the hatchery, manager David Hendrix and staff place orders for extra rainbow trout eggs over and above our complement to compensate for any losses or poor hatch batches that may occur. This way we are always assured of our numbers and any excess can be distributed to tribal and state hatcheries wherever a need arises. These types of partnerships ensure the success of all fisheries.
