  • The season came to an end for the Seneca Indians on Wednesday as they fell to the Strafford Indians 70-50 in sectionals of the MSHSAA Class 3 State Tournament at Bible Baptist College.
Seneca closed the season at 21-8 overall.
Running their press defense from the opening tip, Strafford (24-4) forced seven Seneca turnovers in the first quarter and pulled out to a 19-7 lead by the end of the period.
Seneca would recover, however, as it tallied 12, 14 and 17 points in each of the next three quarters, but Strafford’s offense was ultimately too much.
“They were a really good team,” Seneca coach Will King said. “They just jumped on us in the first quarter. They really pressured us hard. It kind of snowballed.”
Grant Boswell and Blake Alexander combined to do most of the heavy lifting for Strafford as they each scored 16 points, while Jacob Wade added 10, Dallas Hester six, Brady Collier five, Dylan Edwards eight, Dalton Taylor four and Kyle Foley five.
Despite the loss, King said he couldn’t be happier with the performance of his team this season.
“I’m really proud of this team,” King said. “They’re a great group. Very unselfish, they all got along great all year. You can’t take things away from them — conference champions, district champions. They’re just a fun group and they’ve been great all year.”
Kyler Ng paced the Indians in his final game with 18 points, while Chance Smith added 15, Elias Roelfsema six, Jason Mendoza two, Seth Harris three, Bradley Jumper two and Logan St. Clair four.
