After earning the No. 1 seed and receiving a bye in the first round of the NJCAA Region 16 Tournament this week, the No. 15 ranked Crowder Lady ‘Riders have been patiently awaiting their turn to make a run in the 2013 playoffs.
They’ll have their chance in the spotlight at today as they’ll take on State Fair, the fifth-seed, in the semifinals of the tournament at 5 p.m.
That Lady Roadrunners (20-9, 4-4 Region 16) advanced to the semis after edging fourth-seeded Mineral Area, 67-64, on Tuesday in Park Hills, Mo.
Crowder (25-5, 9-1) will enter the contest without one of its top performers in sophomore point guard Sarah Sagely, who’s out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury. On the flipside, the Lady ‘Riders recently returned sophomore Veronica Amos to the lineup after being slowed by injuries throughout the season.
These teams have a history, as well, with everything this season tilted in Crowder’s favor, so far. In two meetings the Lady ‘Riders have prevailed both times with an 82-72 victory at Bob Sneller Gymnasium on Jan. 23, and more recently an 85-73 win in Sedalia, Mo., on Feb. 13.
