  • With unsavory weather wreaking havoc on baseball and softball schedules across the area the past two weeks, the Crowder Lady ‘Riders softball team perhaps felt some of the effects of the time away from the diamond as they went on the road and were swept by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Monday by scores of 5-1 and 3-2.
Having not played since Feb. 24 in Temple, Tex., the Lady ‘Riders had spent a good portion of their preparation for the Lady Norse indoors the past week. The rust showed, according to coach Lori Videmschek.
“You could tell we hadn’t been on the field in a week and a half,” she said. “We just didn’t hit very well when we needed to today. We just weren’t very crisp.”
The losses dropped the Lady ‘Riders to 7-6 overall.
Crowder jumped in front in the first game with a run in the first inning to go up 1-0. The Lady Norse would answer with unanswered runs in the fourth, fifth and three more in the sixth en route to the victory. Alex Gilley earned the win for the Lady Norse, scattering five hits and allowing a run with five strikeouts and four walks in the complete game effort. Allison Tonyan took the loss for the Lady ‘Riders, allowing three earned runs and six hits with four walks and a strikeout in five innings. Ashton Worth added a scoreless frame in relief.
Shelby Stuck, Carson Forge, Brooke Hulsey, Jessica Neely and Shyanne Nichols each had hits for Crowder. Lexie LaValley led NEO with three hits and two RBI, while Alexis Riley had two hits.
Crowder made things interesting in game two, but the Lady Norse plated a pair of runs in the fourth and held on for the win. Crowder led 2-1 at that point after single runs in the first and third trumped a Lady Norse run in the bottom of the first.
NEO struck Crowder starter Madison Barnes for three runs on just four hits. Barnes walked three and struck out two in four innings, and Worth followed with two scoreless frames the remainder of the way.
Stuck, Jessica Neely, Forge, Hulsey, Kala Crisp, Morgan Coleman and Andrea Drake each had hits for Crowder. Neely and Amber Taylor both scored runs, while Hulsey drove in a run.
Bailey Donathan had three hits and drove in a pair for the Lady Norse. Riley had two hits.
Kaitling Davis went the distance for NEO with five strikeouts and seven hits in seven innings. She allowed one run and walked two while earning the victory.
The Lady ‘Riders are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Warner, Okla., to take on Connors State in a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
