  • Members of the Crowder Softstitchers are gearing up for their quilt show, which starts this Thursday and concludes on Sunday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and then from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Wright Conference Center inside the Farber Building on the Crowder College campus.
"I think currently we have got more than 40 quilts that are on display in several different categories," said Phyllis Blackwood, president of the quilting club. "It should be really neat. We will have a little boutique of handmade items, old quilt magazines that people don't want to use anymore. So come and look at all of the neat quilts."
The club does this show every other year.
There will also be a raffle for a quilt that the group has had a hand in the making. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased from the club members, during the days of the show or even at the upcoming 21st annual Business & Industry Review set for Friday and Saturday at the Neosho High School cafeteria. The public is invited to attend from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
During the quilt show, there will be a judge who will judge the quilts and award first, second and best of show. The public is encouraged to attend the quilt show.
The money raised from the raffle will also go to a good cause.
"It goes back into the club to purchase materials to do the next one (quilt)," she noted.
The group has been in existence for more than 25 years. It currently has 14 members and dues are $10 each year per person. They meet the first Thursday of the month in the old bookstore location in Newton Hall at the campus.
    Blackwood enjoys the club.
"I think that it is a lot of fun," she said. "I like to get ideas and suggestions and help from everybody."
