A Neosho man was stabbed in the face with a kitchen knife after allegedly breaking into another man's apartment Wednesday afternoon.
Neosho police officers were called to 116 N. High Apt. 5 at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in regards to a possible stabbing. A 28-year-old man had been stabbed in the face with a kitchen knife.
"The investigation and witnesses indicate that the man stabbed had broken into the home of the caller and assaulted him," NPD Sgt. Jason Baird said in a prepared statement. "The caller stabbed the man in self-defense, and the suspect left the residence."
The caller was brought in for questioning, but not taken into custody, Baird said.
Later, officers were sent to Freeman Neosho Hospital where, Baird said, the suspect went for treatment of the stab wound.
Baird said the suspect was transferred to Joplin's Freeman West, where he remains in critical condition. The investigation is presently ongoing.
