Then on Saturday, March 23, the Neosho Shrine Club – located behind Dr. Kent Findley's Animal Clinic - will host their annual Mardi Gras Party and Auction. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the general public and to Shriners.
Advanced tickets are available at Matters Jewelry and C-V Glass for $30 a couple/$20 single or at the door the day of the event for $35 for a couple or $25 for a single.
"We are doing Cajun style shrimp, gumbo, there is going to be crayfish, (other Cajun food)," said Gerald Hughes, rajah of the Neosho Shrine Club. "There is going to be a pie auction or dessert auction. We are also going to have a silent auction and a live auction, after we have our meal.
"We divide the funds between our crippled children's fund and the Shrine Club, which supports the parade unit. And all of the money stays here in Neosho, with the exception of monies that we give to children that need on their travel fund to go to St. Louis hospital."
Various items will be available for both the silent and live auctions.
"We will have an auctioneer here to auction off the live auction items," Hughes said. "We have lots of items."
Also, the Shrine ladies will be making desserts to be auctioned off.
"Our Shrine ladies will make some of the fantastic desserts that we will auction off first right after everybody gets their meal," he said.
Hughes is pleased with his fellow Shriners on coming together for this worthy cause.
"It is our largest fundraiser of the year," he said. "We have a golf tournament in June, that is our secondary fundraiser. Those two are what keeps us going and keeps our crippled children fund going."
Donations are still being accepted for the auctions.
Proceeds from this event are for the benefit of the Neosho Shrine Club. Payments are not deductible charitable contributions.
