Approximately 800 visitors experienced the fish hatchery over spring break. Educational Outreach Specialist Bruce Hallman represented the hatchery at Missouri Days in Carl Junction. About 275 fourth graders participated. On Saturday he manned a booth at the Walmart Garden Center Grand Opening.

Manager David Hendrix and Assistant Manager Roderick May provided a booth at the Neosho Business Expo Friday evening and Saturday. Willow Creek of Miami, Okla., toured our facility last Friday. Sixty-three-hundred 10-inch trout went out Tuesday and 5,000 went out Wednesday to Lake Taneycomo.

Biologist Jeff Messens reported a record high of 81 degrees on Feb. 15, 2013. Archives showed the last record high for the date was 79 degrees in 1911. Jeff records the weather daily here at the hatchery for the National Weather Service.

There will be a meeting of the "Friends of the Neosho National Fish Hatchery" this evening at 6:30 in the Rainbow Room. The mission statement for the "Friends" group is this: The Friends of the Neosho National Fish Hatchery, Inc. is a nonprofit citizens' organization dedicated to conserving fishery resources and providing support for activities conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Neosho National Fish Hatchery. Such activities, whether independent or in cooperation with other organizations or parties, will benefit fish and other aquatic life. Long distance visitor of the week was Leroy Mason of Seattle, Wash. Local visitor of the week was 7-year-old Jackson Smith who frequents the hatchery with his family and attended last year's "Kids Fishing Day." Upon last week's visit, his mother stated that as Jackson got out of the car in the parking lot here at the hatchery, he said, "I can smell the fishing derby coming." Mrs. Smith stated that Jackson looks forward to the event all year long.
