While working on a story Wednesday morning, I received a surprise phone call. It was from one of my best friends, Brad Harris, who lives with his wife, Libby, in Prairie Grove, Ark.
The first words out of his mouth were, "Want to guess where I am?" Immediately, I asked, "Are you here in Neosho?"
He was and he said he and Libby were up visiting family in Carthage and were driving back through looking at antique and flea market shops.
After a few minutes talking on the phone, we decided to have lunch together.
Brad and I become good friends back when we were both at Crowder College. We had a Western Civilization class together in 1992.
Over the years, we have talked about many things from movies to politics to the economy to history and about religion.
As we were sitting down having lunch, I remembered a couple of his jobs dealing with history.
Years ago, he was in the National Park Service, including at George Washington Carver National Monument and even down in the Vicksburg, Miss., area. He would call me from time to time letting me know what his day was like working for the National Park Service and he stayed with the NPS for a number of years. Years later, Brad called and said he was going back to school to study religion, hoping to become a pastor. Fast forward to present day, and he got his wish. Brad is a pastor of a Baptist church in Prairie Grove, Ark.
Brad has also been on mission trips. He has been in the countries of Turkey, Cambodia and Honduras for mission trips. The trips consisted of providing medical assistance, to witnessing the word of God and sharing the love of God to the residents of the countries. On the trip to Turkey, Brad walked down the streets where the Apostle Paul walked nearly 2,000 years ago.
Brad met Libby about the same time that Tina and I met. The couple married five months before Tina and I did.
It was great to see them both on Wednesday and Tina and I are planning on going down sometime soon to see them in Prairie Grove.
