  • Ollie C. Simmons, 102, Neosho, went to be with her Lord on March 20, 2013, in the arms of her granddaughter and surrounded by family, following a sudden illness.

  • Ollie C. Simmons, 102, Neosho, went to be with her Lord on March 20, 2013, in the arms of her granddaughter and surrounded by family, following a sudden illness.
    Ollie was born Dec. 1, 1910 in the community of Belfast, Mo., and was a lifelong area resident. She had worked as a seamstress at Big Smith Manufacturing and at Lindsay's Department Store, working there more than 20 years before retiring. Following her retirement she took care of her great grandchildren. She loved God, her family and greatly enjoyed her life. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was the oldest living member of the church.
    Ollie married Willis Julian 'Monk' Simmons on Nov. 7, 1930, at Neosho and he preceded her in death.
    Her two daughters, Dorothy Ann 'Dottie' Ladue preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2008 and Maerene Daugherty preceded her in death in March 2009.
    Ollie is survived by three grandchildren, Chris Wade and husband, Scott, Neosho, Marlene Poland and husband, Roy, Wichita, Kan., and Clarence Daugherty, Joplin; great-grandchildren, Brandon Farley, Spencer Farley, Ryan Wade, Victoria, Julie, Hannah, Sandra, Johnny, Nyssa, Shelly, Angela and Dawna; a special great-great-granddaughter, Makenzi Farley; and great-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Faith, Savannah, Sarah, Zeal, Josiah, Emerson, Keighton, Davon, Charlie, Elliott and Natalie; nieces; nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Waynette Collins.
    Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Northside Baptist Church, Dr. Jerry Seigel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Ragan Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Dallas Kelly, Steve Kelly, Bill Snow, Gene Collins, Doug Horn and Kevin Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Ledbetter, Clarence 'Butch' Morris and John Skistmas.
    Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho from noon until 7 p.m. today and the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Ollie may be made to the Upward Bound Basketball program, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, 64850.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
