Diamond plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to knock off Southwest 6-5 in the third place game of the Sarcoxie Tournament on Wednesday.
The Wildcats (2-2) played from behind for most of the game. They trailed 3-0 in the fourth before scoring three of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie it 3-3. The Trojans went back in front with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh to make it 5-3.
Ryan Jinks had a big day at the plate in going 3 for 4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wildcats’ offense, while Kyle Williams, Zach Renfro and Brodie Bien also had hits in the win.
Bien picked up the victory on the mound after allowing one run in one inning of work with two hits and a strikeout. Jinks worked three innings on the mound and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Jordan Divine also tossed three innings and gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and a strikeout.
The Wildcats lost to Miller 3-1 on Monday in six innings before hammering Exeter 14-1 in five innings on Tuesday.
Diamond hits the road for a 4:30 p.m. tilt on Tuesday at Miller.
