  • Three big innings propelled the Seneca Indians to their third victory of the season after some last minute shuffling saw them playing at home for the first time this season.
Due to poor field conditions in Monett, Seneca hosted the Monett Tournament on Wednesday, and the Indians benefited from the home field advantage as they downed East Newton, 13-1, in five innings.
The Indians (3-1) plated three runs in each of the first and second innings, before tacking on seven in the fourth. Colt Webber clubbed a two-run homer for the Indians in the second to lead their 13-hit attack, while Cade Cornett had three hits and two RBIs, Marty Mailes added two hits and three RBIs, Payton Rawlins and Dalan Merriman each had two hits, including a double apiece, and Cole Lankford, Kyler Ng and Brayden Larson each had a hit.
Rawlins, meanwhile, was dominant on the hill for the Indians as he went the distance and allowed two hits, one run and seven strikeouts.
“It’s always nice t get out there and be able to play,” Indians coach Chris Yust said. “We had a lot of quality at-bats up and down the lineup, and got out there and did what we needed to do. It was a good overall win.”
Dillon Bunch had a double for the Patriots while Rocky Liveoak also had a hit.
The tournament returns to Monett today where the Indians will take on the Cubs at 6:30 p.m.
