GRANBY — Organizers for the East Newton Senior Citizens Banquet are gearing up for the annual event, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the East Newton High School.
The event is open to senior citizens in the East Newton R-6 School District.
“The main purpose is to show appreciation for all they have done and continue to do for our district,” said Bobby Stafford, advisor with the school’s student council, who is putting on the event.
The council will be serving food and senior citizens will be treated to smoked pork and chicken, along with potato salad, baked beans, bread and desserts. There will also be entertainment and prize giveaways.
“Attendance has varied every year,” he said. “Usually there are 75-100 senior citizens.”
As far as why the student council hosts this event, Stafford said that it is a service project.
“This is one of the most important service projects of the year and it seems to be greatly appreciated by those who attend,” he noted.
