  • The Neosho boys’ track and field team brought home second place out of 10 schools at the Carthage Invitational on Thursday. The girls, meanwhile, finished ninth out of 11 schools.
Carthage swept on both the boys’ and girls’ side. The Tigers edged the Wildcats 124-105 for first, while McDonald County was eighth with 17 points, Seneca ninth with 14 and East Newton last with 11.
McDonald County brought home eighth on the girls’ side with 45 points, followed by Neosho 36, East Newton 24 and Seneca 12.
The Neosho boys won the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:34.70, squeezing out Willard’s time of 1:35, and took fourth in the 4x800 yard relay in 9:24.40. Ryan Taylor won the 400-yard run, and placed fifth in the 200. Garrett Wood brought home second place in the 800-yard run (2:08.20) and third in the 1600 (4:50.50).
Isaac McMaster turned in a top-five time in the state so far in the 300 hurdles, as he finished second in 43:60, an individual best.
“We’re real pleased with doing well this early,” Neosho coach Zac Nelson said. “We had some kids who performed some personal bests. We put ourselves in a position where we came close to winning.
