The road was not kind to the No. 2 Crowder Roughriders on Monday, as they suffered an 11-4 demise at the hands of Connors State.
The Cowboys’ pitching staff proved tough to solve, as they were led by starting pitcher Daniel Concepcion, who fanned nine and walked two while allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits in 61/3 innings of work. Relievers Josh Hammill and Justin Ferrell worked the final 22/3 scoreless on one hit.
It didn’t take the Cowboys long to make their presence felt as they touched Roughriders starter Marcus Cross for two runs in the bottom of the first, but Crowder tied it on a pair of runs in the third. Both teams traded a run in the next two half innings to make it 3-3 after four.
The Cowboys would soon take control of the scoreboard for good, pushing across three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to blow it open, 9-3, before adding two more in the seventh. Their offense was powered by four homeruns — two apiece from Korey Keith and Philip Diedrick.
Keith had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs, while Diedrick had two hits, four RBIs and scored twice. Christian Perez, Yariel Gonzalez, Eli Roundtree and Eric Kirkpatrick had two hits each in the Cowboys’ 16-hit attack.
Meanwhile, the Roughriders were powered by Tony Sandifer’s three hits and two RBIs. Ryan Lazo had two hits and scored twice, while Chris Scroggins, Ty White and C.J. Webster had a hit apiece. Scroggins and Webster both drove in a run.
The Roughriders (26-5) are slated for one nine-inning game today at 2 p.m. against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at Roughrider Field.
