Evelyn Marie Prater, 89, entered into rest on April 1, 2013, at her home following several months of ill health. She was born February 4, 1924 in Erie (McDonald County), Mo. to James E. and Almedia (Barclay) Wilson.
Evelyn was a lifelong area resident and started her working career at Empson Bakery, where she learned to decorate cakes, and continued to create beautiful wedding, birthday, and many other types of cakes for the rest of her life. She then went to work for the Neosho High School cafeteria for 10 years and was known as the "token lady". Evelyn then worked for 11 years as a retail clerk at Consumer's until her retirement. She was also a member of TOPS.
Evelyn married William T. 'Bill' Prater on Oct. 25, 1941, in Joplin and he preceded her in death on May 21, 2012. She was also preceded in death by five siblings. She is survived by her children; Ted Prater and wife, Sharon of Diamond, Jackie Haller and husband, Dennis of Kearney, Mo., Kenneth Prater and wife, Gloria of Dickenson, Texas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Wilson and Dale Wilson, both of Oklahoma; sister, Louise Johnston of Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho, Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery Neosho. Pallbearers will be Michael Prater, Joe Haller, Jeff Haller; Grandsons; Christopher Prater, Great-Grandson; Honorary Pallbearer, Steven Bradford. The body will lie in state from 9 -5 p.m. Friday, April 5, and there will be open visitation.
