  • Neosho boys win Redbird Relays, girls finish fourth

  • While the conditions outdoors weren’t ideal for a track and field meet, that didn’t stop the Neosho boys from putting their best foot forward as the Wildcats cruised to first place at the Redbird Relays on Monday at Webb City High School. The Lady Wildcats, meanwhile, finished fourth out of 13 schools.
    The boys edged Carl Junction 130-123.5 to win the title, turning in a champion in the 400-meter dash in Ryan Taylor, and six second-place finishes.
    Team scores for the boys were: Neosho 130, Carl Junction 123.5, Webb City 115, Mount Vernon 55, Marshfield 45, Miami (Okla.) 41, McDonald County 41, Aurora 40, Monett 37.5, College Heights 36, Cassville 23, Galena 6, Thomas Jefferson 6.

    Individually, McDonald County’s Courtni Smith was the lone champion for the Lady Mustangs, winning the triple jump with a leap of 33’9. She also grabbed second in the long jump with a burst of 14’10.
