Betty Louise (Slater) Leforgee, 87, Shell Knob, passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Mercy Hospital, Berryville, Ark.
She was born in Fredonia, Kan., on Sept. 9, 1925, the daughter of William "Bill" and Martha Ann (Dewitt) Slater.
She is survived by one son, Thomas James "Jim" Colston and his wife, Cris, Neosho; two daughters, Jaynee Langley and her husband, Danny, Shell Knob, and Martha Dietsch Leavenworth, Kan.; one brother, Edward Slater of the state of Oregon and one sister Ike Thorton and her husband, Carl of the state of Kansas; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Leforgee; and one son, Michael.
Betty grew up in Kansas and graduated from high school in Fredonia. She went to nursing school in Portland, Ore. and became a licensed practical nurse. She worked in several hospitals in pediatrics and geriatrics wards. She moved to Shell Knob in 1970 and worked at Carroll General Hospital in Berryville, Ark., and South Barry County Hospital, Cassville, giving special care to all her patients. She also was a candy maker and worked at Andy's Candies in Eureka Springs, Ark. Betty was of the Methodist faith.
No services are planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob, Mo.
