  • CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Seneca Indians took fourth place at the 39th annual Bill O'Dell Tournament at Carl Lewton Stadium on Saturday.
The Indians (6-3) topped Webb City 6-1 on Friday to make it to the third place game, where they fell to a strong Mount Vernon squad 19-7.
On Friday the Indians plated all six runs in the first four innings and cruised thanks to a solid showing by righty Dalan Merriman on the mound. He allowed no earned runs while striking out 10 on four walks and five hits in the complete-game effort.
The Cardinals' offense posed little threat against Merriman, who also had a hit, scored a run and added an RBI at the plate. Seneca had 10 hits in the affair, with two apiece from Kyler Ng, Payton Rawlins and Marty Mailes. Cade Cornett, Brett Roark and Braden Larson also had hits for the Indians.
Rawlins doubled, drove in a run and scored once, while Ng and Mailes both scored runs. Lankford scored a run and had an RBI, while Larson drove in two and Colton Webber finished with an RBI.
"Dalan gave us a good appearance and chewed up innings, which is big in a tournament like this," Indians coach Chris Yust said. "We had multiple guys putting good at-bats together. It was a good team win."
Things didn't go as smoothly on Saturday as the Mountaineers scored in every inning, including eight runs in the sixth to deliver the knockout blow.
Webber led the Indians with three hits, while Rawlins had two and Merriman, Cornett, Roark and Lankford had one apiece. Webber and Cornett both tripled and drove in a run, while Ng and Rawlins finished with two RBIs apiece and Merriman one.
Seneca travels to East Newton for a Big 8 Conference tilt at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
