Organizers are gearing up for a fundraiser to help Neosho Christian School.

The school will hold their annual Neosho Christian School Annual Benefit Banquet on Saturday, April 20, at the Civic. The evening will include a silent auction and dinner. The school's choir and a guest speaker will provide entertainment. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a silent auction, then at 7 p.m. will be the dinner — prepared by Great Western Dining Service — and the entertainment to follow the dinner.

"We sell tables or individual seats," Neosho Christian School principal/superintendent Lawrence Sanders said. "You can buy a table and invite friends to come and be with you. We have a number of tables. We have a corporate table is $3,000, we have a platinum table that is $2,000, gold tables $1,000, and silver tables are $600. It is a table of eight. Individual tickets are $75."

Sanders noted those who are planning on attending should RSVP by April 18.

"We need to know so that we can get the tables fit and to know how much to tell the caterer," he said.
Proceeds will go to the school.

"The purpose of it, just like the garage sale, is to get money for operations," Sanders said. "We just need that in order to have enough to operate the rest of the year. Last year, it seems like we made by the time we paid everything, $16,000 to $17,000."

There will be numerous items for the silent auction such as a La-Z-Boy chair to kitchen items to handcrafted items and so forth.

"We are looking for items for that right now," he noted. "We usually have some really good items."

The food will consist of grilled chicken breast, cob salad, green beans, Duchess potatoes, rolls and cheesecake. The school's choir will sing songs and the guest speaker is a comedian.

"Rex Havens, he is a speaker and entertainer," he said. "This guy is a former college professor, he decided that he wanted to do something else and he went on the comedy stage. He will be basically a comedian, a stand up comedian, good and clean."

The attendance in the past has been good.

"I am hoping to have around 200 people there this year," Sanders said.
