The Neosho Wildcats and McDonald County Mustangs were amongst a total of 34 teams from Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas competing at the 24th Annual Jock’s Nitch/PSU Gorilla Relays on Friday at Pittsburg State University.

While there were no individual champions for either school, the Neosho boys had the best day of anyone with eight medalists, while the Neosho girls had three. The McDonald County boys finished with two medalists, while the Lady Mustangs had five.

Neosho’s Garrett Wood had the best overall performance for the Wildcats as he finished second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 6:44.11. Each school also had several finish just outside of the top-eight, therefore missing out on a medal.

McDonald County’s 4x800 relay of Pablo Alvarez, Eric Hernandez, Caleb Littlefield and Connor Underwood was one of those near-misses with a ninth place finish. Meanwhile, the Wildcats’ 4x100 relay of Darrian Guillory, Justin McKee, Isaac McMaster and Ryan Taylor also took ninth.

On the girls side, Neosho’s Kylee Hulsey placed ninth in the high jump and Tiffany Gilford took 10th in the long jump. McDonald County’s Dakota Bunch placed ninth in the girls’ 400 dash.
