Does anyone besides me have spring fever?

Does anyone besides me have spring fever? The kind of fever I'm referring to is the anticipation for spring to arrive and stay around, instead of all these alternating warm-cold temperature days. We have had some beautiful spring days lately and I look forward to more spring-like days ahead. So, let's look at all this lovely season has to offer.

Spring is one of my favorite times of year. It's such a beautiful season as the trees begin to grow back, the buds begin to open and spring flowers bloom. What gorgeous sights to see! As the days of spring become warmer and longer, I encourage you to head outside and take in all the new birth and new growth of the great outdoors.

Spring is a great time of year to fit some physical activity into your lifestyle as there is so much to offer. With daylight savings, it's staying lighter out longer, which is great for working individuals who might not get off until after 5 p.m. and want to head outside for their exercise after work.

There are many physical activities that one can take advantage of now that we have some warmer, longer days, such as our first-ever Family Fun Fest and Power Puff Women's Only 5K Thursday, May 2, at 5 p.m. at the Neosho Freeman Family YMCA. Family Fun Fest is a free-community event to encourage active family time. The Power Puff race registration begins at 5 p.m. and the race begins at 6 p.m. Families can enjoy larger-than-life inflatable games such as limbo, bowling, jumbo tic-tac-toe, jumbo checkers, giant bubble blowing and much more.

Additional activities include heading out for a nice walk or jog and if you have a dog, let him or her join you! Take the kids to the park for some active fun on the playground or dig out the stroller or bike and go for a trip around the neighborhood, encouraging your children to be active. Go for a picnic; this is a great way to get out and enjoy time with your family or friends. You or your children could also participate in a spring sport such as baseball or soccer, which are both great forms of exercise. Plan a fun-filled day at the zoo with your family. These are all great ways to have some family time, fit in some physical activity, and maybe experience some new things.

Other great outdoor activities you could try include tennis, golf, Frisbee golf and fishing just to name a few. Speaking of fishing, we are so fortunate to have such a wonderful fish hatchery here in Neosho. This is another great activity for you and your children to experience together, while also learning about everything the hatchery has to offer while taking in the beautiful scenery. Spring is a great time to plant a garden, allowing you to spend some time outdoors, and is also very good for you and the environment.

These are all just some suggestions you can consider as we embark on this new time of year. If you're like me, I love outdoor activities and am always looking for new things to experience. I love these warmer, longer days and I hope to encourage you all to find some time to step outside and enjoy this special season called spring.
