McDonald County got it done at the plate on Tuesday as the Mustangs rapped out 14 hits and rolled the Quapaw Wildcats 11-3.
Mason York and Chance Lemm combined to toss a three-hitter on the mound, but it was the performance of the offense that stole the spotlight.
After yielding an unearned run on one hit with eight strikeouts in five innings, York also went 3 for 3 at the plate with an RBI to pace the offense. Cooper Underwood, Cooper Dill, Jake Wood and Trevor Young also had two hits apiece, while Zack Peck, Evan Acuff and Drey Fickle had a hit. Wood and Fickle drove in two RBIs each, while Underwood, Peck, Dill, York and Young drove in one.
The Mustangs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Quapaw tied it with one of their own in the bottom of the inning. Then the Mustangs took over as they scored one in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and four more in the sixth to move ahead 11-1. That’s all the insurance York and Lemm would need.
Underwood, Fickle, York and Young each doubled.
The Mustangs entertain Carthage at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
