  • After winning the Central Ozark Conference Large Division and a district title last season, it was no surprise that the Branson Pirates, who also returned every player from that team, would again be a force this season.
    Well, they’re still good, as evidenced by their 9-0 victory over the Neosho Wildcats on Tuesday.
    With Neosho players listed first, at singles Jordan Cox lost to Jadyn Cearnal 8-0. Tucker Bailey lost to Will Cooper 8-1. Jackson Parks fell to Justin Oller 8-0. Trenton Hopper was bested by Matt Myers 8-0. Nathan Scribner fell to Tanner Westmoreland 8-1. Paul Sanders was blanked by Chas Bartram 8-0.
    At doubles Cox-Bailey lost to Cooper-Oller 8-2. Parks-Hopper fell to Cearnal-Myers 8-2. Scribner-Sanders lost to Westmoreland-Bartram 8-0.
    “We knew it was going to be a tough match going in and it was,” Wildcats coach Nick Hays said.
    The Wildcats (0-4, 0-3 COC) are at Joplin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
