  • Losing is a feeling the Diamond Wildcats would prefer not to feel again. At this rate, they may get their wish.
Playing their best baseball of the season here in the closing weeks, the Wildcats extended their winning streak to seven games on Monday with a 10-0 drubbing of the McAuley Warriors in six innings at Wendell Redden Field at the Joplin Athletic Complex.
Zach Renfro set the tone for the Wildcats on the mound as he struck out seven and walked four while allowing just two hits in five innings of work. Ryan Jinks tossed a scoreless sixth with two strikeouts to close it out.
At the plate the Wildcats clubbed eight hits, with two apiece from Jordan Douglas and Brodie Bien. Douglas led the team with a double and two RBIs. Bien had an RBI, while Jeremy Morris, Colton Harville, Clayton Rolf had a hit each. Rolf drove in two runs.
The Wildcats (12-4) scored their first run on a perfectly executed safety squeeze by Rolf to score Harville to make it 1-0 in the third inning. Austin Singleton later scored on a walk to make it 2-0. They went on to plate four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and the final run in the sixth to inflict the mercy rule.
“We’re playing good fundamental baseball right now,” Wildcats coach Nathan Cook said. “We’ve won seven in a row and everything’s coming together right now.”
Diamond hosts Pierce City at 4:30 p.m. today.
