  • A big first inning set the tone for the Seneca Indians on Monday as they held off St. Mary's Colgan (Pittsburg, Kan.) 9-7 at the Seneca Sports Complex.
    Aftar a Colton Webber set the stage for the big first inning, Payton Rawlins doubled to drive in two runs and make it 2-0. Marty Mailes then doubled to drive in Rawlins and Brett Roark drove in Mailes to make it 4-0.
    The Indians (12-3) would go on to score twice in the third and three times in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead. The Panthers made a late push with a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh, but Payton Rawlins slammed the door in the bottom of the seventh to earn the save.
    Dalan Merriman started on the hill for the Indians and allowed seven runs on five hits, five walks and 11 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Rawlins struck out one, walked one and allowed a hit while collecting the final two outs in the seventh.
    Kyler Ng led the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Rawlins had two hits, including a double, four RBIs and scored three times. Roark had two hits and two RBIs, while Cole Lankford and Mailes each had a hit.
    Colgan won the B game 4-0.
    The Indians host Lamar at 5 p.m. today.
